Quick Rundown on Making a Pizza at Home

So you've decided that you'd like to make a pizza for yourself or perhaps your family or maybe a party of guests. OK, great! Now, where do you start. Let's start off with something simple. A good cheese pizza is a nice simple way to break into the world of high quality pizza production.

1. Place ball of dough in a bowl that has been lightly coated in some type of oil, preferably olive. Keep moving the dough around so that the oil is covering the dough on all sides. Now place some plastic wrap or saran-wrap over the dough and allow it to sit for about and hour and a half or until the dough roughly doubles in size. You can use an oven if you want but don't set the temperature any higher than 140-150 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Place a baking sheet on a rack in the lower portion of your oven. Now, preheat the oven to 455°F for 25-35 minutes.

3. Remove the covering from the dough and push dough down so it starts to go down some. Cut the dough you have in half. Form two separate round balls of dough. Place each of the dough balls in its own bowl, cover with saran-wrap or plastic and let sit for 8-10 minutes.

4. Now, prepare whatever your desired toppings are, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni. About a third a cup of tomato sauce and about a third a cup of cheese is enough to make one pizza.

5. Working with one piece of dough at a time, flatten it with your hands on a surface or countertop that is covered in flour. Starting in the middle and working out, use your fingertips to press the dough to about one half inch thick.

6. Brush all over the top of the dough with some type of olive oil. Use your fingers to push down and make small indentations along the top of the dough to prevent any kind of bubbling. Now let it sit for 5-8 minutes.

7. Lightly sprinkle your baking sheet with some type of corn meal. Transfer a flat dough to one of your baking sheets.

7. Use a ladle to slowly add the tomato sauce, sprinkle with your desired type of cheese, and place your favorite toppings on the ready to be cooked pizza.

8. Sprinkle some more cornmeal on the sheet in your oven. Bake until brown and the cheese is golden-yellow, in some cases different cheese will turn different colors, but in general this process should take about 8-15 minutes.
